Victoria votes, Crypto collapses and Trump returns

The IMPACT team has had much to discuss this week, with politics on the agenda here and abroad, and the fall of the ‘King of Crypto’.

It’s been an eventful 24 hours internationally, with a tense G20 Summit and Donald Trump announcing his 2024 presidential run. Are we set for a fresh wave of misinformation and madness at the hands of Captain Chaos?

We’ve also been watching the spectacular fall of ‘SBF’ this week. The man once predicted to be the world’s first trillionaire, and one of Joe Biden’s key donors, has seen his net worth drop from USD$16 billion to USD$1 overnight. The collapse of FTX, the cryptocurrency exchange, has not only seen the loss of wealth for many but has eroded the fragile trust of the cryptocurrency industry as a whole.

We were saddened to hear of the tragic passing of Heather Anderson, Adelaide Crows player and Australian Defence Force Medic. 28-year-old Heather was a bright star in the AFLW league, and her death has reignited an important conversation regarding the mental health of service men and women

In 10 days, Victoria will go to the polls for the first time post-pandemic, with early voting underway. The current government has endured their fair share of scandal in the past few months, prompting a review of Victorian Labor, yet polls put Labor ahead with a 56-44 lead. While the Greens hope to capitalise on their best-ever performance in the Federal election, Teal candidates have launched a legal action over the electoral commission’s rejection of their how-to-vote cards.
