Labor’s landslide re-election

The Australian Labor Party has secured a commanding victory in the recent federal election, with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese returning for another term.

Labor has currently won 90 of the 150 seats in the House of Representatives, with the largest swing towards a single party in more than a decade.

This election also marked a major milestone for gender representation, with around 70 women elected to the House of Representatives. For the first time, Labor will have more female than male MPs, reflecting a broader push for diversity and strong female leadership across the political landscape.

The result leaves the Coalition with little hope of reclaiming the lower house this term, while Peter Dutton made history as the first sitting federal Opposition leader to lose his own seat at an election.

 Tackling waste in Aussie kitchens

A quarter of a million tonnes of food is wasted by Australian food service venues every year. In partnership with Saveful and chef Matt Moran, Goodman Fielder Food Service is on a mission to change that.

The brand recently hosted a thought-provoking industry event, Saving Food in Commercial Kitchens, focused on practical ways to reduce food waste and boost kitchen efficiency.

The event offered chefs and hospitality professionals actionable tips on sustainable sourcing, food saving methods, and smarter kitchen practices, all aimed at cutting wastes and costs.

It serves as a powerful reminder that small shifts in the kitchen can lead to big savings for businesses and the planet. As a founding signatory of the Australian Food Pact, Goodman Fielder is also pushing for system-wide change in the food industry.

Reef recognition & Attenborough’s urgent ocean call

In environment news, the Great Barrier Reef is being championed as the first non-human nominee for the UN’s Lifetime Achievement Award, which is historically awarded to a living individual.

Launched on World Earth Day, The Lifetime of Greatness Project, a global campaign by Supermassive and Tourism Tropical North Queensland, celebrates the Reef’s ecological significance to raise awareness and garner worldwide support for the nomination.

Meanwhile, Sir David Attenborough has today marked his 99th birthday with the release of Ocean with David Attenborough. This is his first feature film focused entirely on marine life and highlights that restoring our oceans is possible if we act now.

When branding crosses the line

Nike has come under fire for repurposing the phrase “Never Again” in its London Marathon ads, just days after  Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day.

The timing and tone sparked widespread criticism, with powerful words carrying powerful histories.

What was meant to be as a playful nod to marathon fatigue struck a painful chord. In the Jewish community, “Never Again” is a sacred post-Holocaust promise, not a marketing hook.

In a world where brand messaging moves fast, the campaign is now a cautionary tale for companies to pause and prioritise responsibility.
