Five top tips to enhance your social media presence

Written by Alexandra Robins

In today’s digital age, establishing a strong social media presence is essential for any organisation looking to thrive in the online marketplace.

However, simply having an account on these platforms is not enough; you need to strategically build and maintain your brand’s identity to stand out in this crowded landscape.

We’ve put together our expert tips to help elevate your digital strategy.

1. Authenticity is key

When establishing your online presence, authenticity is crucial. Audiences are shifting away from highly curated content, preferring a real and honest connection, and they can easily spot a fake from a mile away. Your social media accounts should serve as genuine reflections of your business’s identity and values.

Ask yourself: What are your goals and objectives for establishing an online presence? Who is your target audience? And how do you plan to differentiate yourselves from your competitors online?

To truly connect with your followers, prioritise creating and sharing original content that showcases your brand’s unique personality. While stock images might seem like a convenient option for content creation, they often lack originality and fail to resonate with audiences.

Sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses of your work, will also help strengthen loyalty, while increasing brand awareness and visibility.

2. Diversify your content

Creating a strong online presence involves selecting the right types of posts to match your intended purpose.

For example, short-form videos often capture attention and entertain, while static posts can offer more information and provide product details.

Stories can help provide a temporary, yet immersive way to engage with your audience in real-time, while fostering a sense of authenticity and urgency, encouraging followers to stay connected and actively respond.

Carousels are ideal for sharing multiple images or information and are perfect for step-by-step guides or before-and-after transformations.

From TikTok to Instagram, incorporating a variety of content formats ensures you maintain audience engagement, remain versatile, and enhance page aesthetics and across your platforms.

3. Feed the feed with posts!

Consistency is key on social media. Posting regularly helps build anticipation and trust among your audience, but also assists algorithms to identify your content and who it resonates with. This often means more organic reach! Going MIA (Missing in Action) can make it harder to maintain engagement due to the loss in momentum.

Consistent posting also helps make data-driven decisions and allows you to analyse your social media metrics more effectively. By seeing what content performs best, you can tailor your strategy for maximum impact.

We recommend planning your content calendar in advance, but don’t be afraid to be spontaneous. Having the flexibility to jump on trending topics can be a goldmine for engagement. The key is finding the sweet spot between consistency and adaptability, which only comes with practice.

4. Engage with your audience

Building a successful social media presence isn’t just about broadcasting your message, it’s about building a community. Think of it as a virtual space where you can connect and engage with your audience on a deeper level.

Encouraging interaction through likes, comments and shares is important to foster a sense of community. Ask thought-provoking questions in your posts and captions, run polls on your stories to gauge audience interest and opinion, and respond to comments in a friendly and informative way.

5. #HashtagsAreImportant

The humble hashtag can often be overlooked; however, they are powerful tools for increasing engagement and driving brand awareness on social media. They serve as search engines and organisational tools, allowing users to discover relevant content and join conversations.

When using hashtags, aim for a mix of broad and niche, but still relevant tags to reach the right audiences. Incorporating hashtags strategically into your posts can help boost visibility and engagement with those outside of your following.
