With kitchens under pressure and skilled chefs in high demand, celebrating and supporting emerging talent has never been more important. IMPACT client, Nestlé Professional has opened applications for the 2026 Nestlé Golden Chef’s Hat Award, inviting the next wave of young chefs from Australia and New Zealand to step forward.

Following last year’s 60th anniversary milestone, IMPACT is proud to once again be championing the rising talent of the local food scene and supporting this prestigious industry initiative.

Founded in 1965, the competition remains Australia’s longest running culinary competition and is open to apprentice and junior chefs aged 18 to 24 across Australia and New Zealand.

The competition offers a platform for emerging chefs to gain hands-on experience, mentorship and industry connections to elevate their skills. Entry is free, with participants competing for a share of $28,000 in prizes, including a seven-day international culinary trip to Singapore valued at $10,000 AUD.

From June to July, more than 300 young chefs are expected to compete in metro and regional heats across Australia and New Zealand, vying for a place among 11 regional finalists.

The Grand Final will take place in September at Melbourne’s Fine Food Australia, where finalists will compete live for the title of Nestlé Golden Chef of the Year, with the winner announced at the Industry Awards Dinner.

Continuing a legacy of culinary talent

For more than 60 years, the Nestlé Golden Chef’s Hat Award has supported over 8,000 young chefs, many of whom have gone on to lead kitchens, open venues and contribute to culinary innovation across the globe.

Kristina Czepl, General Manager of Nestlé Professional, said the competition continues to play an important role in addressing industry challenges.

“Chef and skill shortages remain one of our industry’s biggest challenges. The Nestlé Golden Chef’s Hat Award gives young chefs the confidence, capability and connections to thrive and helps shape a stronger, more sustainable future for foodservice,” she said.

Head Chef of Spirit House and former finalist, Tom Hitchcock, said the competition can be a defining moment for emerging talent.

“Competitions like these are game changers for young chefs who are ready to push themselves and take their careers to the next level. This program was a fantastic launchpad for me, and I’m incredibly proud to now mentor the next generation,” he said.

Entries for the 2026 Nestlé Golden Chef’s Hat Award are now open and close at 11:59pm AEST on 15 May 2026.
